As a loyal consumer of your products [insert name of favorite product here], I am writing to you today to voice my concern about the increase of hate speech that I have witnessed on some of the programming you sponsor and to request that you cease your sponsorship of [name of] show.  I know I speak for many others when I say that I am greatly disappointed by the amount of hateful rhetoric against the Latino immigrant community in this show, and your continued sponsorship hurts both your reputation as a company and perception to the American Latino community.

Although I support the network and the producers’ right to freedom of expression and creative autonomy, I vehemently oppose the promotion of violence towards any person or group that is the manifestation of hate speech resulting from one-sided, inaccurate rhetoric depicted as news information.  

Hate speech against American Latinos not only affects Latinos, it affects all Americans turning different groups against each other.  It encourages bigotry, makes ignorance acceptable and emboldens extremists to take action against those who are least able to defend themselves.  Some of the conservative talk show hosts that you sponsor have suggested that a conversation about “hate speech” is an attack on free speech, but hiding behind the banner of “free speech” should not and does not work in a democracy and is definitely not good for business.  

I consume most of my entertainment via television.  As a viewer and consumer, I demand to know that the broadcast licensees who profit from our American airwaves use it responsibly and seek to provide varied points of view.  I implore you to recall a basic American premise:  We the people own the airwaves. Please respect your valued consumers by ensuring that hate speech is removed from all programming that you sponsor – only then can Americans be a part of meaningful dialogue and together reach consensus.
